What You Need to Know About “The ABCs of School Choice” 2016 Edition
Since the launch of the nation’s first modern school choice program in 1990, nationwide participation in school choice has grown leaps and bounds—by 115,301 percent! Today, there are 59 school choice programs in 28 states and Washington, D.C., each with its own design, history, and statistics. To help make differentiating and learning from individual programs simpler in 2016, the Friedman Foundation has released The ABCs of School Choice.
This year’s handbook includes all of the information you’ve come to expect for every school choice program in America, including:
- Program participation
- Eligibility estimates
- Funding details
- Governing statutes
- Lists of regulations
- Legal histories
- Friedman Feedback and more.
New features of The ABCs of School Choice start with a bright new cover, but they don’t stop there. The 2016 edition also includes:
National Snapshot of School Choice Over Time
On this spread, we provide graphs showing the change in the number of school choice programs and school choice program market share in the U.S. over time.
Color Coding
This edition uses the same color coding you’ll find here on our website to differentiate program types. It’s a great at-a-glance feature to help make navigating America’s school choice programs easier.
Short Links to Virtual Program Pages
Every school choice program profile in The ABCs of School Choice includes a short link to the corresponding program page on our website, making it quicker and easier to find the most up-to-date information, should program details change throughout the year.
