Private School Choice

Alabama has two private school choice programs. Both programs help families afford to send their children to participating private schools.

Public School Choice

Alabama parents cannot transfer among public schools within their district (intradistrict) or outside their district (interdistrict). Magnet schools and online academies are allowed in Alabama, however.

Alabama does allow charter schools. Parents who choose charter schools do so the same way many parents choose private schools—only charters are public and receive tax dollars.
