Major Gifts Officer

Position Summary and Purpose

As a member of the EdChoice Development team, the Major Gifts Officer will execute the aspects of the organization’s strategic development plan that pertain to major gift fundraising. The Major Gifts Officer will work to personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of new and existing EdChoice donors around the country. Duties include donor research, stewardship procedures, and data integrity.

The Major Gifts Officer will report to and work closely with the Executive Vice President of External Relations and will work collaboratively with the Development team. The Major Gifts Officer will also work to integrate fundraising with the EdChoice mission, as well as coordinating joint meetings with the program teams when appropriate.

The position can be based in Indianapolis, Indiana, or remote. Travel is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the development team to achieve clearly articulated goals, both
    individually and as a team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with a portfolio of at least 150 mid-level and major donors to ensure the donors define and accomplish their philanthropic goals in alignment with the organizational priorities of EdChoice.
  • Develop approach strategies for new major donor prospects, including reengaging lapsed donors.
  • Effectively utilize tools such as the donor club and stewardship procedures to grow EdChoice’s major gift program by upgrading current donors.
  • Conduct calls and visits to identify and qualify new donors and develop customized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for all assigned donors.
  • Work with donor portfolio to identify planned gift prospects and work with donors in all aspects of their philanthropic vision including current and planned gifts.
  • Travel nationwide for face-to-face cultivation and solicitation meetings with existing major donors, planned gift prospects and other donor prospects.

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to educational choice and a passion for the mission of EdChoice with the ability to communicate the EdChoice mission and build meaningful relationships with prospective and current major donors.
  • Two to five years of relevant fundraising and nonprofit experience, primarily focused on donor-facing experience.
  • Experience with successful solicitation and procurement of five and six figure gifts.
  • Ability to discuss all aspects and options of philanthropic activity.
  • Superior writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with development moves management and Salesforce.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) experience.
  • Willing to travel significantly.
